Curriculum Intent Computing

At Wadsworth Fields Primary School we want our children to be safe, intentional, skilful and adaptive users of technology equipped to grow up in an ever changing technological world. We would like children to learn how to use a wide range of devices, programs and websites to support and enrich their ability to solve problems, access information and communicate with others.

Use of technology is now prevalent in a broad range of situations across society and so at Wadsworth Fields Primary School it is included across the wider curriculum. Computing is also taught as a separate subject which increases digital literacy giving children the background knowledge needed to access technological skills and tools in other areas. We aim for children to leave school knowing how to intentionally choose the best tool for the job seeing technology as a stepping stone to help them reach an end goal.

We aim for all children to understand how to stay safe in a digital world and develop the skills needed to manage virtual communications. These aspects of computing are included within the RSHE curriculum as well as timetabled into computing lessons.

We live in an ever changing world so we want our children to be trail blazers sharing their discoveries and assessing whether their choices at safe and fit for purpose.
