This year we have three classes in Upper Key Stage 2:
- Sycamore is a year 6 class taught by Mrs Porter
- Rowan is a year 6 class taught by Mrs Marinelli-Buxton
- Juniper is a year 5 class taught by Ms Talkes and Mrs Johal
We are very lucky to be supported by Miss Marriott.
Welcome to Year 5/6
This year promises to be amazing and we are privileged to support the children through their final years of primary education. Alongside a full curriculum which requires lots of hard work, we have planned many fun and exciting opportunities. We are looking forward to seeing all of year 5 and 6 children flourish.
Spring Term Planning

Children are set homework in both maths and English. They have a week to complete their homework and each subject should take approximately 30 minutes. Please encourage your child to come and see us if they are finding any of the tasks tricky.
The following sways may support with arithmetic and grammar questions.
Reading at home is vital and opens up so many doors! We will be checking reading diaries every week and are looking for everyone to read at least three times a week at home. Have a look at the recommended read booklet, all of these can be found in our library, unless a like-minded person has already borrowed it! If you can’t find what you are looking for, please let Mrs Porter know.
In upper key stage 2, children take part in a business and enterprise project. This vital project teaches children about finances ensuring that they plan, budget, spend and review throughout the year. They work together to organise fundraising events and then spend the money at the end of year to benefit both themselves and the wider school community. Events include movie nights, winter wonderland, sponsored events, sports fairs and much more.
Children in year 6 sit Standardised Assessment Tasks in Maths, Reading and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling during May. Each year, we hold a meeting for parents in the second half of the spring term.
In August, before your child starts year 6, you should receive communication from the local authority about secondary school admissions. Open evenings in our local schools tend to be on a Thursday during September and October. You need to apply by the 31 October through the local authority in which you live. We highly recommend using all of your preferences and ensuring that you include your catchment school, this can be found using on the local authority website (see useful links at the bottom of the page). National offer day is usually 1 March or the closes weekday.
