Curriculum Intent
At Wadsworth Fields Primary School we are passionate about celebrating children’s individual talents. We understand that music can inspire and motivate children. It plays an important role in their personal development, builds confidence and helps them to embrace our wide musical heritage. Music can also help children to develop a greater appreciation of the world we live in, by providing an understanding of different cultures and societies. As a school, we deliver a broad and balanced music curriculum in line with national requirements using the Charanga Scheme, which enables children to develop an enjoyment of the subject. We aim to build on key musical knowledge, understanding and skills. Where possible, we motivate and enthuse pupils by creating links with other curriculum areas including English, maths, science, geography, history and art. Curriculum coverage is mapped out carefully from EYFS to Year 6, which allows key concepts to be developed at a deeper level of learning, understanding and mastery. Fundamental knowledge and skills are covered at key points throughout the primary phase and repeated to allow pupils to build on what has been taught before.
Children are taught to create, perform, listen to and evaluate music of different styles. They will experience a range of music from different cultures, composers and live musicians and take part in weekly singing sessions with piano accompaniment. At Wadsworth Fields we are committed to creating opportunities for all pupils to access individual music tuition.
