Curriculum Intent History
At Wadsworth Fields Primary School we provide children with a challenging and engaging history curriculum that has been designed to help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It is based on the National Curriculum and includes a variety of rich topics through local, British and world history. Our aim is to provide knowledge about the past, to inspire curiosity, discussion and critical thinking through engagement with a variety sources. By linking learning to a range of topics, children are given the opportunity to investigate and interpret the past, understand chronology, build an overview of local, British and world history and to be able to begin to think like a historian. The learning journey is progressive and across the year groups, building on previous learning. Within this, pupils’ understanding of key concepts and vocabulary is developed. We aim to enthuse, support and challenge all abilities through high quality teaching based on sound subject knowledge and an appreciation of how history helps children gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of societies and relationships both past and present and equips them for the next stage of their learning journey.
